SEOUL - June 25, 2024 – IonQ, a global leader in quantum computing, today announced its participation in “Quantum Korea 2024,” being held from June 25 to 27 at the KINTEX exhibition center in Ilsan. This prestigious event will feature numerous renowned experts from the global quantum computing industry.

Based in the United States, IonQ was founded by renowned scholars in the field of quantum computing, Dr. Christopher Monroe and Dr. Jungsang Kim.  Dr. Kim continues to be an active collaborator as Scientific Advisor to IonQ. The company is based on over 25 years of pioneering research. At Quantum Korea 2024, IonQ plans to showcase its rack-mounted enterprise-grade quantum computer, IonQ Forte Enterprise, and strengthen partnerships within the Korean quantum industry.

IonQ Forte Enterprise, with a target performance of #AQ 36, is designed for hybrid workflows and data center compatibility, aiming to tackle complex computing problems such as process optimization, quantum machine learning, correlation analysis, and pattern recognition.

IonQ is actively supporting Korea in achieving an innovative and leading position in the field of quantum computing and its application to industry:

  • Hyundai Motors is leveraging IonQ’s quantum computers for battery development and materials characterization, as well as advancing research in autonomous driving technology.

  • Additionally, IonQ has recently renewed its partnership with Sungkyunkwan University, initially established in 2021, to continue supporting Korean researchers and scientists to get the most out of IonQ’s cutting-edge ion trap quantum computers. This renewal aims to contribute to the advancement of Korea's quantum computing ecosystem.

  • IonQ also signed an agreement with Seoul National University to foster quantum talent and collaborate on research. This agreement aims to enhance the quality of academic-industrial cooperation, including educational programs, joint research, and internships.

  • Through the Quantum Information Research Support Center, IonQ is working with  researchers to mentor local talent. This program provides practical education in quantum computing technology, helping Korea's researchers and students acquire and utilize the latest technologies. It is expected to significantly contribute to fostering quantum computing talent and advancing technology in Korea with the next session taking place this fall.

  • IonQ developed a challenge for the Quantum Information Competition that participants were encouraged to work on. Two IonQ senior scientists joined the event, mentoring participants. This is part of IonQ’s continued effort to support SKKU and educate/upskill the Korean workforce in quantum computing.

Recently, IonQ established the first quantum computing production manufacturing facility in the United States and appointed Dr. Martin Roetteler, a global leader in quantum algorithms, to accelerate the development of commercial quantum applications. IonQ’s manufacturing facility is expected to significantly expand the commercial applicability of quantum computing technology, while Dr. Roetteler’s appointment will greatly enhance IonQ’s research, development, and industry collaboration capabilities.

At the event, Dr. Martin Roetteler will be presenting updates on IonQ's latest algorithm research and will focus on how IonQ is partnering with customers to deliver applications of commercial interest. Additionally, IonQ's Chief Marketing Officer Margaret Arakawa, Chief Financial Officer Thomas Kramer and VP of Sales, and Strategic Partnerships Philip Farah will attend Quantum Korea 2024 to introduce the company's latest marketing strategies and global market expansion plans.

IonQ in partnership with Dr Jaegyoon Hahm, Executive Director KQIA, will also be hosting an Industry Breakfast during the conference titled  “How to harness the potential of Quantum Computing now, for Industry Players, with IonQ”

Peter Chapman, President and CEO of IonQ, expressed his pleasure in participating in Quantum Korea 2024 for the second consecutive year, stating, "I am delighted for IonQ to participate in Quantum Korea 2024 again following last year's exciting event. We look forward to achieving quantum computing technology innovation through continued collaboration with Korean companies and academia." He added, "IonQ's latest quantum processes and algorithms will be essential resources for Korea to lead in quantum supremacy. We hope that this will lead Korea to significant advancements in various industrial sectors."
