Full-Stack Platform

IonQ is introducing its sixth-generation quantum computing platform, with qubit control manufactured using standard semiconductor processes. Designed to be built by the hundreds rather than one at a time, its architecture and design will help accelerate quantum computing's transition to manufacturing at scale and shape the future IonQ Superion™ platform.

Data Center Scalability

IonQ Superion™ 256 is designed to fit into existing data centers, with a standard server-rack footprint and cooling that integrates with conventional infrastructure. It draws significantly less power than a rack of GPUs and requires no bespoke buildout, making it easier to seamlessly add quantum capacity.

Built Upon Proven Fundamentals:

the 5 previous generations of IonQ systems establish manufacturability and global reach.

Scale through simplicity:

Electronic Qubit Control

The IonQ Superion™’s Unit Cell

The unit cell is the fundamental building block of IonQ Superion™’s electronic qubit control. It uses electronics integrated into the chip to control trapped-ion qubits and perform quantum gates. IonQ has demonstrated a world record 99.99% two-qubit gate fidelity with this underlying technology, establishing the performance foundation for the unit cells assembled into larger arrays.

The IonQ Superion™’s Unit Cell Array

The unit cell is the building block of electronic qubit control. Quantum multiplexing extends that control from individual cells to a dense array, much as individual pixels form a display. The array brings building blocks together on the Superion™ 256 chip, providing the control structure needed to operate qubits at scale.

The IonQ Superion™’s Chip:
Manufactured at SkyWater

Designed jointly by IonQ and SkyWater, the Superion 256 chip brings quantum processor fabrication onto standard semiconductor production lines. These chips are fabricated by the wafer and incorporated into packaged processors at the heart of Superion 256 systems. This is the manufacturing foundation of the IonQ Superion™ platform: an approach designed to support systems built by the hundreds.

The IonQ Superion™’s Quantum Processing Unit (QPU)

The QPU sits at the heart of IonQ Superion™ 256. This means that the QPU you see carries everything needed to control, move, prepare, and read out the qubits — light delivery, electronic qubit control, ion trapping and transport — all in an integrated package the size of your thumbnail. IonQ turned a hand-built technology into a compact and mass-manufacturable one, able to scale to tens of thousands of qubits.

From Our Foundry To Your Data Center

Superion 256 is built with a sovereign supply chain and its QPUs are designed jointly by IonQ and SkyWater. These QPUs are fabricated by the wafer in SkyWater's U.S. foundry, using standard semiconductor processes rather than one-off lab assembly. That integration is already paying off with six tapeouts in the first half of 2026, and a design cycle cut from nine months to two.

The first Superion 256 systems are slated for customer delivery in 2027 and announced for multiple globally recognized data centers. IonQ Superion™ is here - quantum is now.
