World Quantum Day is an annual global celebration that promotes awareness and recognition of quantum sciences. Now in its fourth year, this observance brings together researchers, educators and industry innovators to spotlight the growing impact of quantum technologies on society.

Celebrating World Quantum Day Globally
On April 14, IonQ CEO, Niccolo de Masi, will ring the closing bell at the NYSE in New York City, bringing together IonQ application scientists, company customers, partners and collaborators to highlight quantum’s acceleration across key industries.  

Simultaneously, IonQ Executive Chairman, Peter Chapman, will lead a delegation in Japan and will continue on to South Korea later in the week. Both visits serve to underscore IonQ’s growing presence in Asia, and reinforce the company’s commitment to advancing quantum computing globally.

A Year of Quantum Milestones

IonQ’s notable achievements over the past year reflect continued progress against its technical roadmap and strategic business goals, including: 

  • Demonstrating breakthrough use cases showcasing quantum acceleration: In collaboration with Ansys, a leader in the Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) industry, IonQ demonstrated that pre-processing data using quantum technology before using it to perform simulations using Ansys’ LS-DYNA applications improved simulation processing speed by up to 12% compared to classical computing, and that speed-up is expected to increase with IonQ’s future systems.

  • Expanding into quantum networking: IonQ strengthened its position in quantum networking by securing a controlling stake of ID Quantique (IDQ), a global leader in quantum safe networking and sensing and acquiring Qubitekk in 2024. 

  • Growing an impressive patent portfolio: IonQ now owns or controls over 930 patents for both quantum computing and networking related technologies.

  • Securing multiple quantum computing and networking contracts: IonQ landed contracts that include the  U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), as well as the University of Maryland.

  • Accelerating quantum computing adoption with partners: IonQ announced its support of the State of Maryland’s “Capital of Quantum” initiative and committed its intention to anchoring a state-of-the-art quantum intelligence campus based at the University of Maryland at College Park. The company also announced the successful commissioning and global availability of IonQForte Enterprise quantum computer, with #AQ36 performance, located at uptownBasel campus in Arlesheim, Switzerland.

  • Pioneering scalable quantum error correction: IonQ unveiled a novel, efficient approach to quantum error correction that enables fault-tolerant logical qubits using significantly fewer physical qubits—setting the stage for scalable, reliable quantum computing
