Group Product Manager, Quantum Networking

IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology to unlock a new era of computing. Quantum computing has the potential to impact every area of human society for the better. We are looking for a product manager to drive development of our quantum networking products. As a member of the product management organization, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. 

As the Quantum Networking PM, you’ll explore and evaluate opportunities to create value for our customers with cutting-edge quantum networking hardware.  You’ll work closely with our sales and marketing teams to identify opportunities and customer requirements, and you’ll lead collaborative efforts with our research & development and engineering teams to design physical products making use of our quantum networking technologies (both hardware and software).  In addition to your day-to-day focus on quantum networking, you will play a vital part in shaping priorities for developing the next generation of our enterprise-grade quantum computers, creating a critical feedback loop between networking and computing designs.  While prior experience with quantum networking or quantum computing is a plus, your ability to learn quickly and make sense of complex technologies will be key in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Immerse yourself in IonQ’s unique flavor of quantum computing and networking (hardware and software), its advantages, and overall considerations.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and sales team to understand the expressed needs of IonQ's existing and potential customers, and establish your own direct relationships to form your own independent point of view.
  • Identify and understand how our quantum technologies generate value for our customers and overall business.
  • Familiarize yourself with the competitive landscape, alternative offerings, their differentiators, and value propositions.
  • Define and defend an inspiring vision for a quantum networking product line, diving deep into the technology to formulate specific requirements for the hardware and how it operates.  


You’d be a good fit with:

  • 8+ years of product management experience or equivalent, including use-case valuation and launching new products.
  • Track record of data driven analysis and using quantitative decision frameworks.
  • Comfort dealing with advanced technologies, even if you have knowledge gaps, while collaborating with a broad range of engineering experts and scientists to improve your understanding.
  • The ability to synthesize data and opinions into clear written reports/memos about complex topics to represent the voice of the customer at IonQ.
  • Executive level presentation experience, especially for highly technical products.
  • Are capable of organizing insights and priorities despite ambiguity and collaborating with a broad team to understand and adopt your recommendations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as physics or computer science.
  • Experience performing valuation analysis for new technologies and/or an MBA.

You’d be a great fit with:

  • Experience working in the quantum industry or using quantum technologies in another industry.
  • Knowledge in photonics, quantum networks, or quantum information sciences.
  • Experience managing hardware products located in enterprise grade or high performance data centers.
  • Advanced degree in a technical field such as physics or computer science.

Location: This position can be fully remote or hybrid from one of our offices in College Park, MD, or Bothell, WA.
Travel: Occasional 

The approximate base salary range for this position is $141,670 - $185,482.

Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs.  Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided when a candidate receives an offer of employment. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, a quick 15-minute metro from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
