Staff Accountant, Financial Reporting

We are looking for a Financial Reporting Staff Accountant. As a Financial Reporting Staff Accountant, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. 

In this position, you will report to the Manager of Financial Reporting. The Financial Reporting Staff Accountant will also work closely with other senior accounting team members including the Assistant Controller and Accounting Manager and will assist in managing the external quarterly reviews and year-end audit, participate in equity, warrants and investment accounting and assist in special projects as needed. This position will mostly work remotely, periodically working on-site at our headquarters to facilitate team collaboration. A successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of SEC disclosure rules and requirements and be able to apply accounting knowledge, critical thinking, and analytical skills to be a part of a dynamic, first class, highly scalable and efficient financial reporting team for a high-growth, high-tech company. 


  • Prepare the Company’s SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K
  • Coordinate with the SEC Reporting Team and Legal to prepare the annual Proxy statement and facilitate the annual stockholders’ meeting
  • Assist with the preparation of the Company’s quarterly earnings release and deliverables to the Audit Committee
  • Develop and review required schedules to support the quarterly reviews and the annual audit with the Company’s external auditors
  • Collaborate with the SEC Reporting Team and external service providers to ensure proper tagging of financial statement data in the Company’s SEC filings
  • Assemble the quarterly equity rollforward and earnings per share calculations and assist with the preparation of the quarterly cash flow statement
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly controller report
  • Perform quarterly variance analysis of changes in balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Determine the appropriate measurement and recognition of all stock-based compensation awards
  • Review the monthly and quarterly journal entries and account reconciliations for equity, warrants and investments
  • Assist in the development of key accounting processes
  • Prepare technical accounting white papers, as needed, to support conclusions reached on significant accounting transactions and issues
  • Perform Sarbanes-Oxley key controls in a timely manner when implemented
  • Design processes to make all procedures more efficient and accurate, including identifying areas to better leverage our accounting systems to increase automation
  • Perform procedures to assist with the implementation of new systems and technology 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley compliant internal controls
  • Provide backup support for other positions within the department as needed
  • Support the SEC Reporting Team in special projects as needed

You’d be a good fit with: 

  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 3 years of SEC reporting experience
  • Strong analytical and organizational and presentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage deadline requirements and multi-task projects
  • High competency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

You’d be a great fit with: 

  • CPA preferred
  • Experience with a Big Four accounting firm or other national accounting firm is preferred
  • Strong desire and ability to develop new skills quickly in a fast-paced, high-volume environment to continuously improve processes
  • Willingness to take on challenges and think constructively to solve problems
  • Experience with SaaS and software industries preferred

Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out teams in the Washington D.C., Seattle, and Boston metro areas and will want to locate you in one of these geographies.
