Events and Community Manager

IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology to unlock a new era of computing. Quantum computing has the potential to impact every area of human society for the better. IonQ’s computers will soon redefine industries like medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography, and more. IonQ is at the forefront of this technological revolution.


We are looking for an Events and Community Manager to help elevate IonQ’s awareness as a brand to educate and influence our diverse set of audiences at key virtual and physical venues, social platforms, and via other marketing channels. In this role, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. 

The ideal candidate will be energetic, highly organized, very detail-oriented, driven, and an excellent communicator for both internal and external audiences. This role will be wearing a diverse set of hats, at times, a project manager, creative producer, event producer, and more. Your skills should include project management, have an eye for creating experiences, be at ease with complex technologies, and have a deep understanding and appreciation for IonQ’s product and services.

Among key skills required to succeed in this role, you’ll demonstrate the following:

  • Organizational skills: While you have a lot on your plate, you are able to prioritize and execute on day to day programs while keeping the team informed. 
  • Communication: You are able to effectively articulate and engage our audiences, both internally and to the world. Internally, you need to be able to efficiently express your opinions and keep the company included in your endeavors.
  • Attention to detail: You are the voice of our company. Small details matter. Aside from managing events and community management schedules, you’ll have full autonomy when it comes to events.
  • Grace and professionalism under tight timelines


  • Build an actionable event strategy plan, and then manage execution from start to finish with internal and external resources: 
    • Responsible for identifying, planning, executing, and measuring a variety of events, including academic conferences, trade shows, customer events, launches, worksessions, media/analyst briefings, etc, that will help IonQ meet its business objectives.
  • Event Specific: Define event goals, strategies, and ROI measurement criteria and drive planning meetings with stakeholders and involved teams.
    • Conference Operations and support: This includes but not limited to, managing designers, vendors, food & beverage, AV vendors, etc. Meeting room management and working with stakeholders for their presence.
    • Establish and monitor event budget: This includes but is not limited to coordinating logistics including shipping to and from events, onsite setup and teardown, staff schedules, and training meetings, pre and post-show satisfaction surveys and reports.
    • Manage third party vendors such as exhibit house, production company, A/V providers, etc.Research, ideate, and create content for the entire IonQ marketing funnel (from awareness through consideration)
    • Work closely with cross functional teams such as sales, legal, product, etc. for all event deliverables including signage, demo and collateral development and IT/demo owners to track demo equipment needs and inventory to prepare the booth and event layouts, service requirements and shipping logistics.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Liaise with key community influencers, partners, and contributors that come from fields of academia, enterprise, and developer communities. 
    • Insert creative and strategic content recommendations for activating announcements, broader stories, and company achievements
    • Actively participate in the governance of content assets
    • Manage and deliver on a detailed editorial calendar in partnership with Content Manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Creative and dedicated individual with 4+ years of corporate event marketing and tradeshows experience, high tech, or gaming industry
  • Understanding of inbound marketing and demand generation best practices
  • Experience managing major content distribution platforms

Other Qualifications

  • Experience working with writers and designers and collaborating with technical team members to uncomplicate ideas into straightforward and actionable content for the funnel for our various audiences
  • Knowledge of and experience with multiple content mediums, from video to podcasts and beyond
  • Ability to multitask, be detailed oriented and extremely organized while meeting tight deadlines under pressure and driving teams
  • Able to work independently and follow process with minimal supervision

Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out teams in the Washington D.C., Seattle, and Boston metro areas and will want to locate you in one of these geographies. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don’t let this stop you from applying.
